Our current badges

What is a Digital Badge?

A digital badge is a verified digital representation of an earned credential, skill or professional milestone. Unlike a traditional paper certificate or static PDF, a digital badge contains verified metadata describing:

  • Specific competencies and learning objectives you mastered.
  • How you earned the credential (coursework, practical assessments).
  • Who issued the credential (NC State University, Finance Division).

Digital badges can be shared across email signatures, LinkedIn profiles, digital résumés and personal websites, allowing colleagues, leadership, and external peers to independently verify your professional growth.

Recognized via Credly

To issue and manage digital credentials, we have partnered with Credly. When you earn a badge through the Business Officer Academy, Credly allows you to:

  • Verify a badge’s authenticity with single-click verification, ensuring your credentials cannot be falsified.
  • Share your achievement directly to LinkedIn, social media platforms or embed it into your email signature.
  • Demonstrate value by allowing employers and colleagues to select your badge and read the skills, criteria and training involved in earning it.

Earning Your Business Officer Academy Badge

The Business Officer Academy provides NC State employees with targeted financial skills training necessary to fulfill the specific requirements of their job positions.

Here is how to earn your badge:

  1. Register for the certifications and associated courses.
  2. Complete the required coursework and pass the assessments with the minimum required score.
  3. Once program completion is verified by the Finance Division Education and Communications team, you will receive an email with instructions on how to accept your badge.
  4. Within 24 business hours, you will receive an email invitation from Credly, prompting you to accept your badge. Review this one-minute video tutorial: How to Accept Your Badge for a quick walkthrough of the entire process. Please note the badge must be accepted within 30 days; the invitation will expire 30 days after issuance.
  5. Create or log in to your Credly account. Follow the link in your email to log in or create a free Credly account using your official NC State email address.
  6. Accept the badge to add it to your profile. Use Credly’s built-in sharing features to broadcast your achievement on LinkedIn or embed it into your professional email signature.

FAQs: Badge Issuance

Is there any cost associated with claiming my badge?

No. Claiming, storing, and sharing your digital badge through Credly is completely free for all Business Officer Academy participants.

Can I share my badge on LinkedIn?

Yes! Credly integrates directly with LinkedIn. You can add your badge to the Licenses & Certifications section of your profile or post it directly to your network feed.

What if I already have a Credly account?

If you already have a Credly account registered under a personal or secondary email address, you can easily add your NC State email address to your existing account profile to merge your badges under one dashboard.

FAQs: Badge Revocation

Why was my badge revoked??

Badges not accepted within 30 days of issuance are revoked.

If my badge is revoked, does this mean my certification completion is also revoked?

The Credly badge is an optional add-on to our certificate programs and you are not required to accept it. A revoked badge doesn’t cancel your certificate completion.

I don’t remember receiving an email notification of the badge issuance. Can I request that it be resent?

Of course. Contact us, and we will reissue it!
